ShipConstructor for Japan Shipbuilders
ShipConstructor
and EasyStruct collaborate to create the perfect solution for Japanese
shipbuilders
Albacore
Research Ltd. (ARL) and Universal Marine Systems (UMS) announced on April 27,
2005 a new integrated workflow for Japanese customers using EasyStruct for
structural design and ShipConstructor for piping and penetrations
ShipConstructor,
developed by ARL, is the AutoCAD-based 3D product modeling system for the
design and fabrication of ships and offshore structures. ShipConstructor users
have the benefit of a single integrated solution for the engineering of shell
plate, structure, piping, HVAC, and equipment.
EasyStruct,
developed by UMS, is an AutoCAD-based 2D design and 3D structural modeling
system widely used by shipbuilders and other manufacturers in Japan. EasyStruct users have long been in need
of a way to augment their current structural design process with an effective
solution for piping and penetrations. With the new ShipConstructor/EasyStruct
integrated workflow, they now have this solution.
Engineers
can now easily convert their structural design created within EasyStruct to a
ShipConstructor 3D model. ShipConstructor is then used to place outfit items
and run pipe through the EasyStruct structural model. The database transfer
mechanism even deals with changes to existing penetrations or deletions, resulting
in significant time-savings and improved accuracy that facilitate early
outfitting and generate the potential for automation. More details at http://www.shipconstructor.com/documents/PR/P2005-04-27_UMS_ARL.pdf

Maxsurf and
ShipConstructor had a joint booth hosted by our South China reseller Flash Marine of
Shanghai. Dr. Oskar Lee conducted a seminar in Chinese for
guests on ” Quality Shipbuilding via efficient
CAD/CAM/PLM system” (“高效质造船系统”;座谈领导:李国林博士). The talk was supported by the China Boat Industry & Trade Association (CBITA) and the Shanghai
Association of Shipbuilding Industry (SASI) so attendance was very good. 中国船舶工业行业协会船艇分会; 上海船舶工业行业协会. Dr. Oskar Lee was also supported by colleagues from
the Shanghai Design Associates (SDA) 上海思迪安船舶设计公司 during the
questions and answer session when many marine industrial managers took
interests in how the local Chinese company with four shipyards are applying our
modern design and production systems.

About Shanghai Design
Associates (SDA) (www.sinopacific.com.cn)
Shanghai Design Associates (SDA) has
started offering design and consultancy services to the international
market for both shipbuilding and offshore engineering. ShipConstructor systems have been used
for designs of tugs, Platform Supply Vessel(PSV), Aframax tankers and 4250
TEU container vessels at SDA. SDA, with a design centre of some 100 staff in Shanghai, initially train users in their own
shipyards and thence widen their services to train ShipConstructor users in
other parts of China and the region after gaining
sufficient design and production experience with ShipConstructor systems. SDA is part of the SinoPacific group
of companies with four shipyards in China: ZheJiang ShipBuilding Co Ltd, Dadong
ShipBuilding Co Ltd, DaYang City ShipBuilding Co Ltd and DaYang River
ShipBuilding Co Ltd. We are very proud of the achievements
by the designers and engineers at the authorized China ShipConstructor
Training Centre and we wish them all the best in winning new business and
commissioning new ships into operation. All our future clients in China may choose to be trained by local China trainers or by overseas trainers. Apart from avoiding any possible
communication barrier, there should be significant cost savings in terms of
time and expenses.
